 Indian Muslim org. welcomes Nomination of Hamid Ansari for Vice President
PRESS STATEMENT
New Delhi,
21 July, 2007: The All India Muslim Majlis-e- Mushawarat (AIMMM) sincerely welcomes the nomination of Mr. M. Hamid Ansari by the ruling UPA for the post of Vice President of India.
As a diplomat Mr. Hamid Ansari set high standards of professionalism and has perhaps served as Head of Mission in more places than any one else in living memory. Subsequently as Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University at a critical moment he put it back on the rails. As Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities he was ever accessible and sympathetic on any situation of concern to the minorities and brought a touch quiet efficiency and prompt purpose whenever ill-treatment, injustice and violence were brought to his notice.
The AIMMM is particularly delighted because since his retirement from Government service, he has been a member of both its central bodies, the Markazi Majlis-e-Mushawarat and Markazi Majlis-e-Aamla and as such made invaluable contribution to formulation of its views on education and foreign policy.
Secular and compassionate to the core he has been active in the field of human rights and civil liberties.
His election being a foregone conclusion the Majlis-e-Mushawarat felicitates him warmly and wishes him a glorious term.
