Bhabha Award for Muslim Scientist
For the first time in 46 years of Orientation Course for Engineering and Science Graduates (OCES) at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has a Muslim scientist has ever been awarded the prestigious Bhabha Award for electronics engineering.
Asif Iqbal, is the topper for the electronics stream. Every year there is an induction of around 125 trainee scientific officers for BARC of various disciplines. They have to undergo an orientation course consisting of nuclear related subjects as well as the core subjects. The 1 year course is divided into 4 terms and a 3 months project. The trainees are required to appear for around 40 papers including practicals, seminars, viva etc. The trainee who score maximum marks at the end of the year is the awarded the Bhabha Award. The award is given to topper of each discipline as the course and evaluation for each discipline is separate.
The award consists of a gold medal, a certificate and books worth 5000/- Asif will be joining the ASIC design group of the Electronics department and start contributing for the nation from September this month.
Asif did his Bachelors in Engineering & Technology (B. Tech) in Electronics and communication in the year 2002 from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.
