Dear Madam / Sir,

I am extremely concerned that your organisation supports people who in turn support mass murderers and state terrorists like Modi, chief minister of the Indian state of Gujarat who has been indicted by so many national and international human rights organisations for his role in instigating massacres and then protecting the criminals who killed at least one thousand people, raped, pillaged, burned people alive razed thousands of homes, shops and factories, rendered about 200,000 people homeless within days in late February-early March 2002 in vast areas of the state of Gujarat. The ringleader, Modi, is being feted by your clients who are members of Asian American Hotel Owners association (AAHOA) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Please rethink about doing business with such dangerous people. Here are only a few of these reports about the ongoing crimes against humanity being committed by Modi and his ilk in Gujarat since 2002:

1. New York-bases Human Rights Watch report on Gujarat massacres: "Compounding Injustice - The Government's Failure to Redress Massacres in Gujarat": http://www.hrw.org/reports/2003/india0703/

2. Another Human Rights Watch report on Gujarat massacres: "Gujarat Massacre Cases Sabotaged", released on July 1, 2003, which said "The ringleaders of massacres committed in 2002 are still roaming free in Gujarat": http://www.hrw.org/press/2003/06/india070103.htm

3. Yet another Human Rights Watch report on Gujarat massacres: "We Have No Orders To Save You" http://hrw.org/reports/2002/india/ ; www.hrw.org/press/2003/09/india090503.htm

4. Human Rights Watch report on State Participation and - Complicity in Communal Violence in Gujarat - http://hrw.org/reports/2002/india/India0402-03.htm#P527_94439

5. UK-based Amnesty International has periodically exposed these crimes - see: http://web.amnesty.org/library/pdf/ASA200012005ENGLISH/$File/ASA2000105.pdf   http://web.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGASA200292003  http://web.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGASA200032004?open&of=ENG-IND

6. On the basis of the Gujarat state government's behaviour during the massacres and the Indian central government's inaction, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom had written in September 2002 to Secretary of State Powell to place India among 'Countries of Particular Concern' - see: http://www.uscirf.org/prPages/pr0137.php3

7. Concerned Citizens Tribunal's report on the Gujarat carnage, released on November 22, 2002, asked the Indian government to implement all the recommendations made by the Indian National Human Rights Commission and prosecute all, including Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi. Other major recommendations included a ban on VHP and the Bajrang Dal under the relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Full report here: http://www.sabrang.com/tribunal/

8. On crimes against women during the massacres: "How Has the Gujarat Massacre Affected Minority Women? - The Survivors Speak": http://www.ektaonline.org/cac/resources/articles/womensreport.htm  / http://www.mnet.fr/aiindex/Women_s_reportGujrat02.html

9. "How has the Gujarat Massacre Affected Minority Women?" - http://167.216.192.97/gujarat/sec1.shtml

10. Some articles, see: http://www.mnet.fr/aiindex/#information   & analysis section on the recent Communal Riots in Gujarat Communalism Combat 'Genocide Gujarat 2002' issue: http://www.sabrang.com/cc/current/index.html

11. Report of the independent fact-finding mission comprised of Kamal Mitra Chenoy, S.P. Shukla, K.S. Subramaniam and Achin Vanaik: http://www.mnet.fr/aiindex/GujCarnage.html

12. Another resource: http://www.onlinevolunteers.org

13. http://www.ektaonline.org/cac/resources/reports/index.htm  for links to reports which may read on the web.

14. Gory photos of the Gujarat massacres: http://www.genocideinindia.org , http://www.imrc.ws/html/photos.html

15. India's National Human Rights Commission had to step in on a number of occassions (see: http://nhrc.nic.in/Gujarat.htm ) and India's Supreme Court had to intervene and in an unprecedented moved transferred two major cases
(Best Bakery and Bilkis) to courts outside the state of Gujarat because justice was being miscarried due to official interference.

16. It has also been established beyond doubt that such supporters offer these criminals monetary assistance which in turn helps these criminals to carry out their criminal activities against minorities, especially Muslims and Christians - see for instance: In Bad Faith - British Charity & Hindu Extremism: www.awaazsaw.org/ibf/index.htm  ; www.stopfundinghate.org  / A Foreign Exchange of Hate: www.ektaonline.org/cac/about/

I request you to reconsider your partnership with people who despite all the protests are adamant to stand by a criminal and state terrorist like Modi.

Yours sincerely
