Beard of Muslim shaved by Mumbai police
Mumbai (18 June 2005): Urdu daily “Inquilab” and Sahara TV
published today that a Muslim detainee's beard was forcibly shaved today at a police station here. According to reports, a person, identified as "Abdur Rahman", a resident of Rukhsar Manzil Room No. 2 Goregaonker Wadi, Andheri (W)- 58, was forced to shave his beard at D. N. Nagar police station, Andheri West by police inspectors Anandkar Gudkar and Arvind Shronkar. When Abdur Rahman pleaded saying that his beard was a religious symbol and he could not shave it, the
duo threatened him with sever consequences and warned to book him under false cases. A similar incident
occurred in the Thane Central Jail earlier. «
