Meerut: Teasing of girls by anti-social elements in Laour town of Meerut district led to communal tension after which additional police has been posted there. The entire town has been turned into a cantonment. District authorities claim to have full control over the situation but because of fear this town appears to be desolate. In view of communal riots in Mau, district’s civil and police authorities do not want to take any risk. SP (Village), Shiv Sagar Singh is camping along with police force in the town.
According to police, cases of teasing and molestation of women in the town during Ram Lila had taken a serious turn. After that, next day again some youths indulged in teasing and indecent remarks at the women present there. At this, organisers of Ram Lila protested which led to exchange of hot words and physical fighting between the youths and some people, including members of the Ram Lila Committee. Matters took a serious turn when people from Hindu and Muslim communities came face to face with arms and missiles. Stone pelting was resorted to from both sides resulting in injuries to many on both sides.
A young man was arrested and taken to police station but the agitated crowd caught him there and he was mercilessly beaten. Top civil and police authorities reached the spot at night itself. The injured on both sides were admitted to the district hospital. Four of them who were seriously injured were admitted to Medical College Hospital. Extra police and PAC jawans have also been posted there.
