Guwahati: Communal riots broke out in Tezpur (Assam) on 4 September in which 7 persons were injured. According to state government authorities, the RSS had given a call for a one-day strike in protest against the arrest of 3 of its supporters. There were clashes between the people of two communities. Some supporters of RSS assaulted a leader of Jamaat-e Islami and in this connection police arrested the three persons involved in the
assault.
Meanwhile, senior members of the Hindu and Muslim communities formed a peace committee to prevent the spread of riots and to help the police to restore peace. According to police sources, situation is under control now.
