AMU VC on Minority
Character
PRESS RELEASE
The
Milli Gazette Online
ALIGARH: With reference to the statement in the Press given by Mr. Mohd. Azam Khan, a senior Minister in the UP Government, AMU Vice-Chancellor, Mr. Naseem Ahmad denied that the University authorities were playing in the hands of any political party and that he was trying to garner any position for himself by placating any political party. He said that the issue of minority character of Aligarh Muslim University was so vital for the institution that the University would welcome helping hand from any quarter. This is the need of the hour for the institution where political preferences of any functionary of the University should not have any place. He appreciated the gesture of Mr. Mohd. Azam Khan that he and his party were in favour of restoration of minority character of AMU. Leaving aside his stature and eminence as a Minister in the U.P. Government, the University expects him to rise to the occasion as an old boy of this great institution of learning.
The Vice-Chancellor also denied that he or any other functionary of the University was collecting funds for any political party. He added that politics was not his cup of tea and that he nursed no political ambitions. He further stated that he would warmly welcome any suggestions given by Mr. Mohd. Azam Khan and other illustrious old boys of the AMU for the restoration of the minority character of the AMU.
