Muslim Islamic NewsBritish Muslims To Protest Vilification Of The Prophet

Press Release by The Muslim Council of Britain

The Milli Gazette Online

Leading British Muslim organisations affiliated to the Muslim Council of Britain are to jointly hold a rally in Trafalgar Square, London, beginning at 1.00pm on Saturday 11th February 2006, to protest against the rising wave of xenophobia towards Muslims across Europe and the gratuitously offensive caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) which have been reprinted in many newspapers around the world.

“Mainstream British Muslims have been deeply hurt both by the provocative actions of the newspapers that printed and reprinted these caricatures of our beloved Prophet, but also by the disgraceful actions of a tiny group of extremists who have once again rushed in to sully our good name. This rally will aim to help British Muslims to express their feelings peacefully and will call upon the newspapers concerned to recognise and apologise for the enormous offence and needless distress they have caused to millions of Muslims across the world. We believe that the editors of these papers have shown huge insensitivity and an indefensible lack of judgement in this matter,” said Sir Iqbal Sacranie, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain.

The MCB commends the vast majority of British Muslims for the restraint and dignity which they have demonstrated to date and calls upon them to continue to be vigilant and resist provocation by extremist elements. All of us together must ensure that our protests remain firmly within the bounds of the law at all times.
