The event will also feature prominent journalist MJ Akbar, Dr Shakeel Ahmed (Minister of State for Information and Technology), Kumar Malvall (Founder of Brocade Communications), Sanjay Khan (film personality), and AK Saxena of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. The convention will deliberate on developing strategies to combat illiteracy among Muslims and other underprivileged groups in India.

"The convention will provide an ideal platform for educationists, social workers and politicians to come together and share their ideas in promoting literacy and fighting poverty," said convention chairman Dr. Nazir Morbi. Thus year's convention will have a special session from 12 noon to 2 pm for the formation of various committees for the implementation of a 5 year plan of attaining near 100% literacy levels in the state of Uttar Pradesh, he added.

Dr. Shakir Mukhi, the incoming president of AFMI, appealed to all those who are concerned with the educational and economical plight of the Indian Muslims to attend and actively participate in the convention in large numbers. "It is a a duty of all NRIs to eradicate illiteracy and poverty in India and we should pitch in to do our part," he said.
