Bangalore:
The recent spate of encounter killings like that of Shorabuddin Shiekh and Kauser Bi by the State machinery in Gujarat has brought the need to investigate and bring to justice those who are responsible for the elimination of innocent lives. To discuss the various aspects involved in the fake encounter killings, the newly formed National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (NCHRO) will hold a National Seminar at Mumbai on Tuesday 26 June 2007, the International Day for the Victims of Torture. It will mark the beginning of a wider campaign to be undertaken by NCHRO.
NCHRO aims to bring to light various encounter killings that have taken place recently which are clear cases of violation of human rights and blatant mockery of the police authority. The high-ranking inter-state conspiracy involved in Sheik's case is example enough. The seminar is aimed also to enlighten the general public on the seriousness of the issue and also adopt practical methodologies to encounter this trend.
Human rights activists and legal experts from different states and the relatives of the victims of encounter deaths are expected to participate in the seminar.
A meeting of the human rights activists and legal defenders held here has decided to form a common platform of the human rights activists and organizations. It has constituted National Confederation of Human Rights Organizations (NCHRO) with the following persons as ad-hoc committee members: Adv. K. P. Muhmmad Shareef, Calicut (General Convener), Mr. Subrahmaniam, Chennai (Joint Convener), Mr. Shiv Sunder, Bangalore and Mr. Adv. Ahmed Basha, Vijyavada (Secretaries).
