New Delhi: Leading Indian Muslim organisations on
Friday, 4 June, staged a massive rally here demanding an end to the trade
and military relations between India and Israel. The demonstration was
mainly to protest against the Israeli attack on the peaceful aid flotilla
in the Mediterreanean in the night of 30 May leading to 19 deaths, about
60 injured and around 700 participants in the anti-siege campaign taken
prisoners. Thousands joined the protest march that started from India Gate
and headed towards the Israeli embassy on Aurangzeb Road but was stopped
by the police on the Shahjahan Road. Many prominent social figures
addressed the protesters stating the criminal act of Israel was a
challenge to the world and India should taken effective notice of the
same.
Tasleem
Rahmani, President of the Muslim Political Council, speaking at the rally,
said that the entire world was demonstrating in support of Palestine.
“Millions of people in Palestine are living as if they are jailed, for no
reason. They are not even allowed to enjoy fundamental rights. Here the
caste or religion of those people is not important, we have to stand by
the oppressed wherever he may be,” he said adding the UPA government
should shut down the Israel embassy to protect the secular face of the
nation.
Muhammad Adeeb, MP, said that Gandhi and Nehru were sympathisers of
Palestine while the UPA government is totally with the oppressors. “UPA
government is not following the footsteps of Gandhi and Nehru. 1.5 million
of people in Gaza Strip are suffering for years, they are blocked out from
the world in every sense. Israel dared the whole world by attacking the
aid ships. They have to be kicked out of our country in all means,” he
said requesting all the people to donate whatever possible to help the
Palestinians.
CPI
leader and member of Parliament Atul Kumar Anjan said imperialist powers
were controlling Palestine for their own benefits. “People of Palestine
have the right as any other country in the world to decide their own
policies and plans. But the imperialists are trying to stop them from
enjoying this birthright,” he said. Criticising the close relations of the
Indian government with Israel, he demanded cutting off all ties with
Israel. “The Free Trade Agreement our government is contemplating to
conclude with Israel is a clear indication of the stand of our government,
The agreement would facilitate our money to be used by Israel to persecute
the Palestinians. That has to be stopped,” he said adding that the issue
of Palestine was not an issue of any particular sect but of the entire
mankind.
Social
activist Swami Agnivesh said that it was under the shade of US, that
Israel committed all brutalities. “USA is the only nation that supports
Israel in the world. Both of these nations try to impose their
imperialistic agenda on the world and try to make benefit from these
brutal policies. We could see it in Afghanistan, Iraq and even in
Pakistan. Though the US President Barack Obama speaks a lot, by action he
is not different from former President W Bush,” Swami said stating “US is
the enemy of the mankind”.
Maulana Arshad Farooqi of Markazi Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind said that Israel was
a cancer to the entire world. “Israel has to be cut-off from the body of
the world as it is a threat for the entire world and especially for the
Arab world.” He called upon the people in the world to boycott the
products and services of Israel.
KK Suhail, National President of the Students Islamic Organisation of
India, questioned the duplicity of world powers in addressing terrorism.
“If blocking and attacking aid ships carrying food and medicines brought
by volunteers from all over the world is not terrorism, then what is
terrorism?” he asked stating that the Palestine issue is the issue of the
entire world. “The latest act of Israel has brought out its ugly face for
all to see. This is why countries like Turkey, being a long time ally of
Israel, are taking steps against them. India too should break all
bilateral treaties with Israel and their companies should be kicked out of
the country. The world should pressurise Israel to lift the Gaza
blockade,” he said and called upon the people to lend financial help to
the people in Palestine.
Dr.
Zafarul-Islam Khan, Editor of
The
Milli Gazette, said that Israel had spread over the world like
a menace. “Though Israel pledged under Oslo Accords, that the Palestine
issue would be solved within five years, it has been 18 long years since
and there is no trace of a sovereign Palestinian state and the occupation
continues with all its brutalities. Israel is a symbol of deceit and
fraud, he said adding that everywhere in the world you can see their
presence as exporters of arms and providers of arms and guerrilla warfare
training.
Mujtaba Farooqi, secretary of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Dr. Manzoor Alam,
General Secretary of the All India Milli Council, Maulana Muhammad
Hakimuddin Qasmi, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and many others
spoke at the demonstration demanding that the India government end its
trade and military ties with Israel, stop buying Israeli arms and
ammunition as it directly helps Israel to persecute Palestinians.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister as well as to
the Representative of the United Nations in India demanding action against
Israel for its war crimes, blockade and occupation.
The rally was jointly organised by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Jamiat Ulema-e
Hind, Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadith, All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat,
All India Milli Council, Muslim Political Council of India, Indian Islahi
Movement, Majlis-e Fikr-o Amal, Students Islamic Organisation and
