Urdu
in missionary school
The
Milli Gazette
Agra: Saint Marks School, Agra has opened a new
chapter in its history when it started regular teaching of Urdu in its
classes. Dr Shafiq Ashrafi, President of Urdu Department of St. Johnson
College here says that in Agra schools, arrangements for teaching of Urdu
are just for name sake. Under such conditions starting of Urdu teaching
classes is a laudable step. Earlier, the syllabus of Urdu books from class
1 to class 8th was inaugurated and a set of 8 Urdu books was released by
Dr Shafiq Ashrafi. Principal of the school said on this occasion that this
school was started in 1991 and at present there are about 900 boy and girl
student in it of whom about 280 students have offered Urdu as optional
subject. This is the first English medium Convent School in Agra where
arrangements have been made for teaching of Urdu as an optional subject.
