Muslim leaders condemn Bashar regime

New Delhi: Muslim leaders urged the government of India to intervene in the Syrian crisis as it is taking heavy toll of human life. At a seminar here on "Syria, a human Crisis and Indian Stand" on 17 February, they asked the government to spell out its stand on the Syrian issue as India being an active member of the Non-Aligned Movement has to share responsibility of stopping bloodshed in Syria. They condemned the Bashar regime for turning Syria into a killing field. President of the Muslim Political Council of India Dr Tasleem Ahmad Rehmani said the Syrian civil war has become a major humanitarian issue as one fourth of the country's population has been displaced externally or internally. Dr Rehmani, who recently returned from civil- war affected areas on Syrian- Turkey border after spending 20 days to get first-hand knowledge of the situation there, said the situation is very horrible.
