Ruju’ Ila al-Qur’an — ahmiyat aur taqazay


This is a collection of papers presented at the two-day seminar on “Ruju’ ila al-Qur’an- Ahmiyat aur Taqazay” (Return to the Qur’an - importance and requirements) held by the Idarah ‘Ulum al-Qur’an (Shibli Bagh, Aligarh) on 21-22 Oct., 2012. The volume, edited by Maulana Ashhad Rafique Nadwi, contains 21 papers on different aspects of the main theme of the seminar, in addition to the inaugural, key note and presidential addresses. Apart from offering an introduction to the subject matter of the Holy Qur’an and highlighting its characteristics as the Greatest Book of Divine Guidance, the important issues discussed in various papers are: meaning and different dimensions of the call for “Ruju’ ila al-Qur’an”, need for application of modern sources for inviting people to the Qur’an, evaluation of the methodologies of the teaching of the Qur’an at elementary and higher levels in madrasahs, dars-i- Qur’an and demands of the present day, principles for development of the understanding of the Qur’an, importance of Nazm-i-Qur’an in explanation of its meanings, how to respond to the objections on the Qur’an, bringing out legal points from the Qur’an and the demands of modern times, Qur’an and norms for relationship with non-Muslims, Qur’anic mechanism for circulation of wealth and its relevance to the contemporary situation.

The contributors of the papers included faculty members of different departments of Aligarh Muslim University and scholars of K. A. Nizami Centre of Qur’anic Studies, Idarah ‘Ulum al- Qur’an and Idarah Ilm-o-Adab. Outstation contributors came from the Islamic Economics Research Centre of Jeddah, Dar al Shariah of Dubai, Lucknow University, Maulana Azad National Urdu University at Hyderabad, Madrasatul Islah at Saraimir, Jamiatul Falah at Bilaryaganj, Jamiatus Salihat at Rampur, Jamia Darussalam at Oomerabad (Tamil Nadu), Jamiah Islamiah at Shantapuram (Kerala), Tasnifi Academy at New Delhi and Pharos Educational Foundation of  Mumbai.

The work is useful for understanding the importance and relevance of the Qur’anic principles and teachings in the present day and for realising the need of calling upon people to follow them in all aspects of their daily life.
