Is Mumbra forever condemned?

Whenever I go to Thane, I make it a point to visit Mumbra which’s adjacent to it. I’ve a few dear Muslim friends from UP residing there. The recent incident of the detention of Muslim youth at Mumbra by police made me think, why this place is forever on the radar of police and intelligence? By the way, Mumbra has almost 90 percent Muslim population. Most of them are very poor and eternally deprived. Granted, there could be a few anti-social elements in this god-forsaken place but like Malegaon, near Nasik, Mumbra also has people who’re poor and innocent. Mind you, in both the places, good and law-abiding Muslims far outnumber miscreants. Yet Muslims of Mumbra and Malegaon are condemned forever. No Hindu/Muslim activists have properly taken up the cudgels on behalf of the oppressed Muslims of these places, especially of Mumbra. If you visit the place (Mumbra), ramshackle houses will greet you. There’s a widespread penury that’s so palpably felt at Mumbra the moment you reach there. That it’s just 30 kms from Bombay makes Mumbra’s case all the more sad and ironical. Unaffected by the affluence of Bombay, it’s become the dark underbelly of the metropolitan presumed by police as a potential den of anti-social Muslims. To feel sad is an understatement. It’s time, Mumbra got a rahnuma, a sarparast (leader) who can bring it out of the morass of imposed infamy.
