Purohit was the mastermind behind Orissa and Karnataka violence: Pragya

Pragya Thakur during interrogation by NIA over Samjhauta blast has revealed that Colonel Shrikant Purohit had masterminded the violence in Orissa and Karnataka. She also told Mumbai anti terrorist Squad that the Malegaon blast in September 2008 was executed by Ramji Kalsangra using her motorcycle.

Pragya also revealed that she met Purohit for the first time in April 2008, four months before the Malegaon blast and she knew nothing about it. NIA has proof of an SMS sent by Lt. Col. Purohit to all his associates after the Sadhvi’s arrest, which said “Singh has sung” which indicates her involvement in the Malegaon blast. Pragya claimed that she talked to the Colonel not more than eight to ten times for money that Purohit wanted for the ashram.

As per Indian Express, report on Pragya’s interrogation (in 23 March issue) which focuses on a 30-minute meeting between Pragya and Ramji Kalsangra:

1. Pragya said she bought the vehicle (registered number GJ 05 BR 1920) from Surat in 2003 with financial assistance from her “rakhi brother” Sunil Joshi of Dewas. In November 2004, Thakur gave the motorcycle to Joshi for Rs 22,000. She said the motorcycle was never sold to Sunil Joshi.

2. During the 30-minute conversation, Thakur says she asked Kalsangra about the motorcycle and asked him to come with her to Surat. The statement quotes Kalsangra saying: “I have used your vehicle for a bomb blast in Malegaon, Maharashtra.” When she asked him why he did this, Kalsangra replied: “It happened.”

3. Thakur then said that she would have to go to jail as the vehicle was in her name. Ramji Kalsangra replied that she need not worry as he had changed the number-plate and filed off the vehicle’s engine and chassis number. He told her the police would find no clues. 4. Countering his claim that he had left no clues, Thakur told Kalsangra that the police had tracked her down and so there must have been a trail. According to Thakur, Kalsangra told her: “I don’t think so. Work has been done. If you want, you can take my name.”

The Christians Secular Forum (CSF) Mumbai has demanded an investigation into Pragya’s statement about the involvement of Purohit in violence against Christians in Orissa and Karnataka on the lines of earlier military intelligence report. MI report said, “Responsible for covert operations, the RSS activist was instrumental in breaking influential RSS and VHP workers towards Abhinav Bharat. He is known to be associated with the core group who had undertaken the IED blast in Ajmer in 2007. In March 2008, he accompanied Ramji Kalsangra and Sandeep Dange to Purohit’s residence in Panchmarhi. Police records confirmed his involvement in anti-Christian riots in Pune, Jabalpur and Bhopal. Lt Col Purohit admitted that on behalf of Abhinav Bharat, Sameer killed two Christians in Orissa in August 2008. This act indicated that Lt Col Purohit wanted to establish an organisation with aggressive anti-Christian stance.”

The CSF has also sent a memorandum to the prime minister and home minister demanding to hand over investigation of anti-Christian violence in Orissa and Karnataka to the NIA.
