NIA to probe Kanpur blast

After Uttar Pradesh ATS having failed to make any breakthrough in the Kanpur blast in which two Bajrang Dal activists were killed on 24 August 2008, the National Investigative Agency is now likely to investigate the case. Uttar Pradesh state officials and the NIA have discussed the case in detail for a couple of months and reached the conclusion that under the given circumstances the NIA is best equipped to deal with such cases. Earlier ministry of home affairs and the National Investigative Agency had informed UP officials that people involved in the conspiracy to carry out blasts in Samjhauta Express, Malegaon and Modasa also may have planned blasts in Uttar Pradesh.
