Rein In Adityanath

“Religion and politics is a fatal combination,” Winston Churchill opined decades ago. BJP leader Yogi Adityanath’s volatile statement that “Over 10 percent minority population causes riots” is in sync with this government’s (religious) ideology. He’s just voicing BJP’s religious parochialism.

The government has unleashed these loose cannons to say whatever they want to. Mind you, a yogi ought not to have any desire and he must be above all prejudices and presuppositions. The word ‘Yogi’ came from Sanskrit root ‘yogam’ (unattached and completely alienated from everything). Is this man, Yogi Adityanath, unattached and alienated from his party’s core ideology, that’s Hinduism?  Muslims in India are at the crossroads of an uncertain future, thanks to such yogis and a rabidly Hindu government.
