Whole Muslim population of Lakshdweep in the list of ST

New Delhi: Government of India said in Lok Sabha that it has been made compulsory for all states and territories under central government to cooperate with National Minorities Development and Financial Corporation (NMDFC) and participate in its activities for the promotion of minority’s interests. Minister of state for minorities affairs at the centre, Vincent H. Pala said in Rajya Sabha in a written reply that Lakshdweep has apologised for its non-cooperation with NMDFC and requested to exempt it from participating in its activities. He said that according to the information supplied by the Directorate of Social Welfare and Tribal affairs, the entire Muslim population of Lakshdweep has been included in the notified list of tribes and they have already been taking loans under different schemes of National Scheduled Tribes Finance & Development Corporation.
