Christian political outfit to field candidates in Kerala

After having been ignored by political parties like the United Democratic Front and Left Democratic Front the first political party launched by Christians has decided to field its own candidates for the coming assembly elections in Kerala to be held on 13 April. The purpose of the newly launched Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is to unite and provide a platform for the community, from where the Christians can raise their problems and grievances. Joy Abraham Parikkapallil, general secretary of the Christian Democratic Union said, “We are compelled to field our own candidates, because no political party provides justice for Christians.” In earlier elections, UDF fielded Christian candidates in Ollur, Thrissur, Irinjalakkuda and Manaloor constituencies but this time they chose not to field Christian candidates from these constituencies, which eventually resulted in the formation of a new Christian political party in the state.
