Golden Jubilee of UNI news agency

New Delhi: Indian news agency, United News of India (UNI) completed 50 years of its existence on 21 March when its Golden Jubilee was celebrated in its New Delhi Head Office in a simple but dignified manner. Golden Jubilee celebrations were held in its offices in other cities of the country also. Chairman of UNI’s Board of Directors, D.D. Parkayestha while praising the services of all its employees called upon them to work unitedly to face the emerging challenges in the world of journalism and hoped that braving all impediments it will move forward and attain new heights in the world of journalism. UNI’s Vice Chairman O.N. Bhattacharya, while reviewing the journalistic history of the agency said that today (21 March) is the first day of its golden jubilee celebrations which will continue for a year. Editor of Urdu Service Anisur Rahman also expressed his view on this occasion. On this occasion eight of UNI’s employees in Delhi who completed 25 years service in this agency were presented watches in appreciation of their work. Twenty-two other employees in other cities who had completed 25 years of service were also presented gifts.

UNI provides its journalistic and news services in Urdu, English and Hindi. The agency had started its professional services on this day (21 March) 50 years ago in 1961 from New Delhi’s Abdul Ghaffar Khan Market with only five employees and its office was housed in a single room. The first news was supplied to its subscribers by hand. Today it does so through internet and other modern means and has its own website, TV screen service and other paraphernalia.
