PTI, ASI officials and Hindi newspaper fined by High Court

Lucknow: Three-member special Bench of Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow Branch consisting of Justices S.U. Khan, Sudhir Agarwal and V.K. Dikshit dismissed three petitions separately filed by Dr. Muhammad Ismail Farooqi for review of the court’s verdict of 30 September 2010 on Babri Masjid’s land ownership. Farooqi had contended that since the Nirmohi Akhara case was dismissed in 1885, it had no legal standing. The Bench also fined PTI and Hindi newspaper Dainik Jagran Rs 1000 each for wrongly reporting its verdict of 30 September 2010. The Bench also fined ASI officials S. Ratnakar and Prof. D. Mandal Rs 1000 for using wrong words in their book on the ASI report, considering it as contempt of court.
