Seminar on Nehruvian vision

Aligarh: The Centre for Nehru Studies, Department of Political Science, AMU conducted a two-day National Seminar on “Nehruvian Vision of India and the World: Mapping the Contemporary Realities” at the Arts Faculty Lounge. While delivering the keynote address, Prof. Abdul Nafey underlined that the main focus of Jawaharlal Nehru was on decolonization and the threat of neo-colonialism. Chief Guest of the programme, officiating Vice Chancellor Prof. S. Abrar Hasan said that Nehru was a gentleman politician. He also underlined the support which Nehru extended to Aligarh Muslim University.

In his presidential address, emeritus professor and renowned historian, Prof. Irfan Habib said that Nehru was a humanist to the core and he was in support of all those people who fought for just causes. Earlier, the chairman of the Department of Political Science, Prof. A. R. Vijapur welcomed the delegates and said that the Centre was established in 2000 under the ‘Social Thinker’ scheme of the Government of India. Prof. Vijapur observed that the seminars organized by this Centre have received help and support from several distinguished personalities like Sonia Gandhi, Ramesh Bhandari, Bimal Jalan etc. Prof. Vijapur said that during the last 60 years, the department has produced around 200 PhDs and around 100 MPhils while faculty members have 100 books to their credit. It has also given a score of eminent personalities to the country like the present Vice President of India, Mr. M. Hamid Ansari. On this occasion, books by Prof. A. R. Vijapur, Mr. M. Aftab Alam and M. H. Faridi were released.
