American Centre English Training Programme for AMU

Aligarh: The American Centre, New Delhi, has recently sanctioned an ambitious Training Programme under the MoU between Aligarh Muslim University and American Centre. Prof. A.R. Kidwai, Director, UGC Academic Staff College said that  the two year-long Training Programme meant for 200 AMU Senior Secondary School students, focused on improving  their spoken and written English skills through innovative and creative methodology. These skills will be groomed by a team of teachers selected by the American Centre. The training programme commenced this March. In 2007 and 2009, the American Centre sanctioned similar training programmes for 100 and 200 underprivileged AMU school students respectively. Both these programmes have been successfully carried out. In view of the tremendous success of the earlier programmes and in recognition of the benefits accruing to the students, the American Centre has agreed to continue the programme for Senior Secondary students. A number of teachers from the Department of English, Senior Secondary and Secondary Schools of AMU are part of the training team, which, in turn, is equipped with better skills, including visits to the US organised by the American Centre. Professor Kidwai has expressed his gratification over this new programme, which will enhance the communication skills of AMU  students.
