Former J&K militants are now being hired to commit crime

Kashmir police while investigating the murder of a Kashmiri businessman in north Kashmir’s Kreeri township have discovered that ex-militants were being hired to settle personal grudges. S M Sahai, IGP, Kashmir zone in an interview said that these incidents reveal criminalisation of society where easily available weapons for hire have made murder an easy way to settle personal rivalry.

Police also believe that these ex-militants were also approached by a former militant commander to kill 16 people who were active and supported the police during the agitation ahead of the panchayat polls last year. Police after finding empty cartridges where Lone was killed on 28 February for the first time got wind of the involvement of former militant.

Earlier, the wife of an engineer was also arrested by the police for conspiring to kill her husband, by hiring a former militant and Special Police official. In the Valley the number of such kind of incidents where former militants are being hired to commit crime is on the rise these days.
