JIH leader quits post over support to LDF

Kozhikode: Hameed Vanimel, Kerala state political secretary of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, has relinquished all his positions in the organisation. He said at a press meeting here on 3 April that he was resigning over the Jamaat leadership’s decision to support the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in the forthcoming Assembly elections. Apart from the post of political secretary, he quit his membership in the state secretariat and the national delegates’ council. Mr. Hameed said that he could not understand the rationale of the organisation supporting CPI(M) and the front, which, he said  had tried to destroy JIH using power and influence from time to time. “The CPI(M) is a party which had always called the Jamaat-e-Islami a terror outfit,” he said adding that it was during a meeting between CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and Jamaat-e-Islami State Ameer T. Arifali in Alappuzha on March 20 that an “understanding” was reached on giving the organisation’s support to the front in the elections.
