SIT arrests three more in SHO Phool Mohammed murder case

Special Investigation team has arrested 3 more persons in connection with the gruesome killing of police officer Phool Mohammad by a mob of nearly 1000 people that set the Mantown police station’s Phool Mohammed’s jeep on fire on 17 March at Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan while protesting police inaction on the death of a youth who jumped off a water tank. The area became tense once again on 21 March and it took an ugly turn when protestors attacked the motorcade of Director-General of Police Harish Chandra Meena who had gone to meet the family of Phool Mohammad at Khirwa in Sikar district. So far 11 persons have been arrested in this connection. IG Bhupendra Singh who is investigating the case said, “We had identified 30 people in this case. So far, 11 have been arrested. They all disturbed the peace and harmony in the area after the youth’s death by ransacking and pelting stones at the SHO.” Rajasthan government recommended a CBI probe into the incident but so far authorities are waiting to get clearance from the Union Government. Local Congress MLA Alauddin Azad and the Rajasthan Muslim forum have also demanded a CBI probe into the incident. The Rajasthan government has announced ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh to the family of the deceased, a flat, and employment for one from the family and free education for his children. A joint delegation of People’s Union for Civil Liberties and Rajasthan Muslim Forum visited the family of the deceased and its adjoining area to ascertain the truth behind the tragic incident. There have been aslo attempts to whip up communal tension over the incident.
