Dumped trash exposes Modi clean-up drive

New Delhi:  Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay and ex-AAP leader Shazia Ilmi unwittingly exposed the sham

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) on 5 November when garbage was dumped and spread on a road just before they took brooms to clean it as part of the current Modi diversion which is simply a photo-op for BJP leaders. In a footage, Upadhyay, Shazia Ilmi and India Islamic Cultural Centre (IICC) chairman Siraj Qureshi are seen sweeping a road outside the IICC in central Delhi. Minutes earlier uniformed IICC workers had dumped trash at the spot. The BJP chief said he had joined the drive at an invitation from the Islamic Centre and knew nothing about garbage allegedly being dumped to stage the cleaning.  The Swachh Bharat mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 2 October, Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. He had tagged several prominent celebrities and politicians challenging them to involve others in a gigantic country-wide cleaning drive. Like other tall promises, this too remains a joke in a country where half the households do not have toilets.
