Destitute Muslim women commit suicide

Having failed to earn their daily bread in the absence of their husbands, three Muslim women at Dabra in Gwalior district, committed suicide on 6 April by jumping on the railway track. The local administration had nabbed 17 people in connection with a deadly attack on the administration during an anti-encroachment drive. Hasin Khan, Saleem Baig, Heero and a son of one of them are in jail since 8 March.

As a result, their wives and family members could not meet their ends and eventually jumped to death to get rid of their misery. For the last one month, these families could not cook their meal even once in their homes due to abject poverty. This was the first time when people at Dabra in Gwalior district witnessed such horrible and tragic deaths. The news of their death spread like fire and people of the area rushed to the place. After seeing their dead bodies, people were shocked.

It took nearly six hours for the administration to send the bodies lying by the side of the railway track for post mortem. Naseem, a family member of Saleem and Haseen, while talking to reporters said that Saleem and Haseeb are innocent and they must be released immediately. She also said that the real perpetrators are still at large and police have so far not been able to arrest them. (Jagran Plus Hindi daily, Gwalior, 7 April, 2011)
