Mysore-based Farooqia Dental College & Hospital is one of the 40+ dental colleges in the Karnataka state. It is in yet again in another season of chaos. Senior faculty of the College including the Principal, the Vice-Principal, and professors walked out of the college on 7th April 2011. The faculty (both teaching and non-teaching) have not been paid salaries since October 2010. One of the faculties, on conditions of anonymity gave us the following information.
The faculty of the Farooqia Dental College has not been paid salary since October 2010. Despite the staff having given repeated notices to the management on 15th Feb 2011, 10th Mar 2011, 30th Mar 2011 & 6th April 2011, the management headed by the secretary Taj Mohammed Khan, did not show any inclination even towards a meeting with the senior faculty. Frustrated faculty walked out of the college on 7th April. Till date nobody from the management have approached the staff as well as refused for any meeting with them.
Salary problems in Farooqia Dental College are nothing new. Normally the salaries are paid once in 2-3 months. Is the Dental Council taking note of this college?. Nearly 250plus students study in Farooqia Dental College in the BDS course. The students have missed their classes and clinics since 7th April. One of the students informed us that the management did not respond to their repeated requests to get their teachers back.
The absense of faculty has also put the patients in great inconvenience. What will be the fate of the students of Farooqia Dental College? Should not the Dental Council of India take strong action against such college managements who harass their faculty and do not mind putting the future of future dentists in danger?
