Planning Commission contemplates sub-plan for Muslims (India)

The Planning Commission is likely to include a sub-plan for the minorities on the lines of the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste sub plan in the coming 12th five year plan (2012-2017). And in order to make it a reality various committees are working closely for the 12th Plan document.

Recently, a delegation comprising of Muslim MP across India led by Rajya Sabha deputy chairman K Rahman Khan met the Planning Commission members including Montek Singh Ahluwalia and demanded the inclusion a sub-plan for the Muslims in order to address and resolve the issue of bacwardness. The delegation also gave a memorandum which says “We would like to reiterate the demands of having sub-plan exclusively for Muslims to address the issue of their backwardness above and beyond multi-sectoral development programme. This will facilitate to design focused schemes for the targeted group.”

Recently, Prakash Karat, CPI(M) General Secretary while addressing a convention on the Justice Rajinder Sachar Committee’s recommendations organised by the CPI (M) said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has agreed to consider the CPI(M)’s demand for a sub-Plan for Muslims on the lines of the sub-Plan for tribals
