Muslims & Sikhs lay mosque’s foundation

A goodwill gesture was seen on 25 December 2014, when Muslims and Sikhs joined hands to lay foundation-stone of Abu Bakar Masjid in Patiala and prayed for peace and harmony. There are only 25 Muslim families in Devgarh village where the foundation-stone of the mosque was laid with the help of thousands of Sikh people living in the village, projecting religious harmony and national integrity. This is the only mosque within an area of 59 kilometers from the village.

During a ceremony on the occasion, head of Jamiat Shah Waliullah, Maulana Kaleem Siddiqi said that Masjid is house of God, whoever participates in the construction of a mosque will be rewarded by Almighty. He added that the leaders of Akali Dal showed a great example of religious goodwill and national integration. Akali Dal leader, Tejender Pal Singh, said that this mosque is for our Muslim brothers and this is the identity and tradition of this country. Sarpanch of the village, Major Singh, assured Muslims of every possible help. The stone-laying ceremony was started with Quran recitation by Maulana Mohammad Noman Qasmi.
