Qur’ani Lessons

The Qur’ani Durus (part I, II), the latest Urdu book authored by Prof. Zafarul Islam Islahi of the Department of Islamic Studies, AMU, is a collection of articles earlier published under the column “Dars-i- Qur’an” in Majallah Tazkeer, an organ of Madrasah Diniah, Ghazipur (U.P.). The book contains 26 duroos, which were thematically arranged into two parts (10 in the first part and 16 in the second).

The contents of the work are mainly related to the introduction of the subject matter of the Qur’an, main objectives of its revelation, value of the Qur’an as the greatest benediction (ni’mah) for Mankind, Qur’an as the reminder (zikr), divine advice (nasihah) and action (‘amal), the concept of Ibadah in view of the Qur’an, four primary obligations and their objectives, Qur’anic concept of Amanah, Taqwa - the basic source of all virtues (khair), Qur’an and the main field of Musabaqah (competition) for Muslims, Qur’an and human rights, definition and scope of Ihsan in view of the Qur’an, Qur’anic demands (mutalabaat) in financial matters (earning, utilising and spending money and concluding transactions), Qur’an and women’s economic rights, the Qur’anic concept of knowledge, basic characteristics (ausaf) of Ahl-i- ‘Ilm/’Ulama (learned persons/scholars), Qur’an and virtues of Tawadu’u (modesty), Sabr (patience), Shukr (gratitude to Allah Almighty) and Taubah wa Istighfaar (repentance).

Discussing all these subjects with extensive references from the Holy Qur’an, the author frequently quotes the relevant Ahadith also. To facilitate the understanding of the contents, very easy language and simple style were adopted in the course of his discussions about what the Qur’an demands from us in our daily life.

All the published duroos were thoroughly revised and improved before compiling them in a book form.

The book, consisting of 216 pages and costing Rs 100, is published by the Diniah Academy, Madrasah Diniah, Ghazipur-2033001 (U.P.). The book may be also obtained from the Idarah Uloom al-Qur’an, Shibli Bagh, Aligarh-202002.
