Launch of I-Quiz 2015 – a UNESCO recognised National Level Quiz on the Science during the Golden Age

I-Quiz 2015 is going to be inaugurated tomorrow (25th August 2015) at Fateh Maidan Club, Hyderabad. Dr. Zahid Husain Khan, member of the International Working Group of Ibn Al-Haytham is going to be the Chief Guest for the programme.

Year 2015 has been declared as the International Year of Light (IYL 2015) and Light-based technologies during the 68th session of the UN General Assembly. This global initiative is coordinated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

The event aims to increase awareness about how light based technologies have contributed through ages to the different fields of science & technology including agriculture, medicine, energy etc.  Commemorating IYL 2015 in India, a group of three organizations based in Hyderabad – MESCO, ILM Foundation and MS Education Academy will be conducting a National Level Quiz Competition, titled I-Quiz 2015. The primary objective of I-Quiz 2015 is to create awareness about the scientific discoveries made during the Golden Age, a period between 7th to 16th century, by men and women of different faiths and thereby inspire a shared scientific heritage among the youth of today.  Another central theme for the event will be Ibn Al-Haytham, a pioneering scientist who has made unprecedented contribution to the understanding of vision, optics and light. 

The competition is open for high school students of grades VIII, IX & X studying in any Government recognized/Private school in India. The competition will have 7 different phases with the last 3 phases of the programme being covered on i-Plus TV, a Television channel recognised by the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, will be the official telecast partner of the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final phases of the competition. The Milli Gazette is the Online Media Partner of I-Quiz 2015 along with ‘Daily Kalom’ and ‘Akhbar e Mashriq’ as the Bengali and Urdu Media Partners respectively in the state of West Bengal. The competition will be implemented across 16 states covering more than 500 schools in partnership with regional social organisations like:

·        AIDCA – Mumbai,

·        International Institute of Basic Sciences & Invitation Towards Straight Path – Jammu & Kashmir,

·        Career Information & Guidance Movement for All in India – Karnataka,

·        ALMAS Medical, Educational and Charitable Trust and Mukkam Muslim Orphanage – Kerala,

·        MESCO - ALEEF (Bhopal Chapter)- Madhya Pradesh,

·        Institute for Rural India Skills, Entrepreneurship and Education (iRISEe) (Tarraqi Foundation) – Rajasthan,

·        Organization of Muslim Educational Institutions and Associations of Tamil Nadu,

·        Student Development Association and Young Reformers Foundation – Telangana.

There will be four (4) centres in West Bengal, one each in Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Murshidabad. The first phase of the competition will be held in the first week of October 2015.
