Mysuru youth bags Rs. 1 cr. fellowship

Mysuru: A city youth, Syed Usman Taqui, has topped the global ranking list for the Erasmus Mundus fellowship, a European scholarship programme.

The fellowship, amounting to 1,29,900 euros (almost equivalent to Rs. 1 crore), has been awarded to facilitate him to pursue his doctoral programme in Membrane Engineering for three years, beginning November 2015.

Usman, one of five students to be selected for the fellowship, will carry out research in a consortium consisting of six leading partner institutions from Portugal, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, France, Belgium and Italy.

The Erasmus Mundus Doctorate in Membrane Engineering is designed excellence, innovation, mobility, and multidisciplinary investigation approaches related to Membrane Science and Technology.

Mr Usman, who completed his master’s degree in Membrane Engineering, also with the help of Erasmus Mundus scholarship. He is a graduate of P.A. College of Engineering, Mangaluru.
