Award instituted in the name of Nirmala Deshpande in Pakistan

Islamabad: An important NGO of Pakistan, Pakistan Institute of Labour Education & Research (PILER), has instituted an award in the name of late Gandhian activist, Mrs. Nirmala Deshpande to honour persons and institutions of South Asia who are working for peace. General Council of PILER decided to institute this award named ‘Nirmala Deshpande South Asian Peace and Justice Award’, which consists of a cash prize of Rs. one million, in her honour as a mark of ‘abiding respect for Didi Nirmala Deshpande and a permanent tribute too for her service to humanity,’ said PILER in a statement.

PILER’s Executive Director Karamat Ali said that an independent jury, selected from eight member countries of SAARC will choose the winner/s. He said that this award will be given every year on 17 October, Nirmala Deshpande’s birthday.
