NHRC slams NGOs report as misleading

New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission has expressed concern over a report released by about 200 non-governmental organisations questioning the effective functioning of the NHRC as a human rights watchdog. Displeased by the report, the NHRC issued a press note on 26 April which says that the report is misleading and facts are distorted. The NGOs under the banner of All India Network of NGOs and individuals working for human rights institutions at various levels raised a question mark on the effectiveness of NHRC at a time when the National Human Rights Commission is to seek re-accreditation before the International Co-ordination Committee of National Human Rights Institutions in Geneva in a month from now. The report was released by former Chief Justice of India JS Verma in the national capital and by Justice H Suresh in Mumbai.
