Misappropriation of minorities scholarships funds

Varanasi: With the discovery of misappropriation of minorities scholarships funds worth lakhs of rupees in Varanasi, police has registered criminal cases against more than two dozen persons. Intelligence Foundation’s team had been investigating the cases of misappropriation of scholarship funds. Persons against whom cases have been registered are O. P. Saini, former District Minorities Welfare Officer and more than two dozen principals of schools, village Pradhans, senior clerk Abu Ahmad and others. A written complaint to this effect was made in the police station by investigating teams inspector Ram Lal. According to this complaint government had allotted an amount of Rs 4,71,64,066 towards scholarships for minority community students of some areas of Varanasi and also for the students of Nagar Nigam, Nagar Palika’s basic and junior high schools for the years from 1998 to 2001 but these were distributed among some students only and the remaining amounts were pocketed by the people mentioned above. After the complaint, government had appointed team’s ASP Aditya Kumar Shukla to investigate the case. During the investigation the complicity of the then district minorities welfare officer and many employees and officers of his office was found. On the instructions of ASP, Ram Lal, inspector of the investigation team filed a report against the accused persons about their conspiracy in misappropriation of government funds under different sections of IPC.
