UP Navnirman Sena chief, Amit Jani, held

New Delhi:   Amit Jani, the UP Navnirman Sena chief, was arrested from Greater Kailash on 12 May for allegedly threatening to kill JNU Students’ Union president, Kanhaiya Kumar and Umar Khalid. He is alleged to have planted a loaded gun on a bus alongwith a letter threatening to kill the two JNU students, last April. Special Commissioner of Police for Special Cell, Arvind Deep, said Jani was arrested by a team of Special Cell, under Section 41(1) of CrPC. Earlier, Jani’s plea to the Delhi High Court for interim bail was rejected. The gun and letter were found on a bus of the route 615, heading towards JNU on 14 April. The driver of the bus had informed the police and a case was registered at Tilak Marg police station. Jani’s brother Saurabh and his friend Sulabh and a third accused, Chandrabhan, were arrested earlier from Delhi.  After the expiry of the two-day police remand of Amit Jani, the Tilak Marg thana police submitted him to Patiala High Court, which has sent him for a 14-day judicial custody to Tihar jail.
