Prof. SHABAHAT HUSAIN, Head of AMU’s Department of Library and Information Science and Coordinator of DRS Programme has been elected and appointed Chairman of Indian Library Association. He is the first Librarian from AMU who has been appointed Chairman of Indian Library Association. Prof. A. R. Qidwai, Director of UGC, HRD Centre said at a felicitation function in his honour that Prof. Shabahat Husain played an important role in the establishment of the world’s first Social Science Cyber Library with which 16 different countries of the world are getting benefited.
 
 
 
 
 
Dr. SALEHA RASHEED has been appointed President of Allahabad University’s Department of Arabic and Persian by University’s Vice Chancellor Ratan Lal Banglo. Her academic career has been very good from the very beginning. She also writes in Urdu, Hindi, Persian and English so that particularly Hindi knowing people could get familiar with masterpieces in Urdu and Persian. For this she has translated many important books of Urdu and Persian in Hindi and she is also associated with a Hindi magazine. For her services to Urdu and Persian languages and literature she has been honoured with Sir Sayyad National Award, for teaching Persian language and literature in particular she has been honoured with Rotary Literary Award and for taking up and writing on women’s problems she has been honoured with Mahadevi Varma Mahila Shakti Samman.
 
 
FATEMA ZAMAAN of Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) who received her education in India in Urdu-medium secured top position in Computer & Information Science and Engineering (CISE) in America’s Florida University in May this year. She has done Master’s in CISE and now plans to do PhD. Her father Kamruzzamaan is a former employee of Telco. Since her education in India was in Urdu, Hindi medium, her English was rather poor but surmounting this difficulty she worked hard and became perfect in English. Since her financial condition also was not good, she was doing part-time job there along with studies and from this income she was meeting her educational and other expenses.
 
 
 
 
 
 
ARSHIMA KHAN (D/o Arshad Khan) of Hamirpur (UP), a student of Jawahar Navoday Viddyalaya, Hamirpur secured hundred percent marks in CBSE’s 10th class, results of which were declared on 28 May ‘16.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
MUHAMMAD MOHASSIN, a student of JNU became the first student from this University who became an MLA. He was elected for Kerala’s Pattambi seat by defeating sitting Congress MLA, C. P. Muhammad by more than 7000 votes.
