Annual prize distribution by Delhi Urdu Academy

New Delhi: Delhi Urdu Academy held its annual prize distribution in Delhi Secretariat on 20 May when the authors of best Urdu books published in the years 2014 and 2015 were honoured with prizes. On this occasion 15 authors whose books (in prose as well as in poetry) were selected as best in the year 2014 were honoured by Delhi’s minister for arts, culture and languages Kapil Mishra, who while speaking on this occasion said that under the circumstances prevailing these days people, particularly authors are afraid that no body knows when and why a ban may be imposed on them by the government and people are being compelled to say ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’, otherwise they will be killed’ by goons and diehards. He further said that when an honest officer does not accept bribe and pays the price for it with his life (referring to the murder of NDMC law officer Moin Khan), what is this, if not patriotism? and asked sarcastically ‘can any baba render such sacrifice? On this occasion he also said that the amount of the prizes given by Delhi Urdu Academy will be increased.

The authors whose books were selected as best in the year 2014 and were honoured with prizes are: Zubair Rizwi (who died recently), P. P. Shrivastava, Dr. Abu Bakar, Abdus Sami’, Dr. Tabish Mehdi, Syed Qamrul Hasan, Ms. Alina Ishrat Rizvi, K. A. Muntaqim, Dr. (Ms) Aabida Khatoon, Dr. Nishat Hasan, Noorul Aain Qaisar, Dr. M. Tufail Azad, Dr. Noorul Haq, Dr. Shoaib Nauganvi and Dr. Shabbir Siddiqi.

Those authors, poets whose books were selected as best in 2015 and were honoured with Awards are: Dr. Abrar Rahmani, Abrar Karatpuri, Dr. Munawwar Kamaal, Anees Amrohvi, Dr. Tanzil Athar, Dr. (Ms) Shefta Parveen, Falahuddin Falahi, Ms. Zakia Rukhshinda, Abdul Haee, Anjum Usmani, Salik Dhampuri, Abu Zaheer Rahmani, Zafar Anwar, Zafar Aejaz, Ms. Waseema Sultana, Azam Abbas Shakeel, Dr. (Ms) Sultana Fatema Wahidi, Dr. Farah Javed, Dr. Abdul Qadir Shams and Waseem Nadir. Munshi Nawal Kishore Award for best publisher was given to Hali Publications.
