Jamia Millia to set up herbal garden of medicinal plants

New Delhi: Jamia Millia Islamia University plans to set up and develop a herbal garden of medicinal plants in its campus for research purposes and for creating awareness among students about unani system of treatment, unani medicines and medicinal plants. For this purpose it (Jamia) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CCRUM (Central Council for Research in Unani medicines), New Delhi under which both institutions will cooperate and collaborate in the development of medicinal plants in addition to conducting researches. It may be stated in this connection that CCRUM has already opened a Unani medicines OPD in Ansari Health Centre in the Jamia Campus. Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University, Prof. Talat Ahmad said that with this collaboration, teachers and students will get an opportunity to jointly identify medicinal plants that would help them in conducting researches in the fields of biotechnology, bio-chemistry and alternative medicines. Director of CCRUM Prof. Raisur Rahman, while thanking the Jamia authorities, particularly the VC, Prof. Talat Ahmad for creating an opportunity for starting a herbal garden, hoped that with this, a new beginning in the field of research in unani medicines and unani system of treatment will be made.
