VHP leader arrested for anti-Islam WhatsApp comment

A VHP leader who posted an offensive comment against Prophet Muhammad on WhatsApp was arrested from Balwadi village of Barwani district on 15 June and sent to judicial custody. Sanjay Bhawsar, the vice-president of VHP’s Barwani district unit, was arrested around 1 am, a little less than two hours after a group of Muslims complained to the police about the message. Sub-divisional police officer (Sendhwa) Suneel Jolly said that Bhawsar was booked under Section 295-A of the IPC and Section 66 of the Information Technology Act.  When the news of his arrest spread early in the morning, right-wing activists announced that they will enforce a bandh in the village. The call had no impact as shops remained open.
