Prof. KHALIL TOOQAAR, Presidnet of the Department of Urdu in Istanbul University, Turkey was honoured by JNU’s Centre of Indian Languages with Salaar-e Urdu Award in recognition of his valuable services to Urdu. Author of many books he is also very active in promoting Urdu language and literature in Turkey. Prof. Anwar Pasha, Chairman of JNU’s Centre of Indian Language while presenting the Award to him described him (Prof. Khalil) as Urdu’s ambassador in Turkey. Prof. Pasha said that the word ‘Urdu’ itself is derived from Turkey and during the evolutionary period of Urdu hundreds of words of Turkish language were included in Urdu which are now assets of Urdu language.
