Arrest of PFI member Muhammad Tauseef

Patna:  The Popular Front of India (PFI) said that RSS and BJP are targeting minorities and Dalits on the pretext of raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogan. In order to get Muhammad Tauseef released from jail on the false allegation, we shall not only initiate legal action but would appeal to good senses of CM Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav. The forensic report has proved that Tauseef has been wrongly implicated. The former judge of the Mumbai High Court and president of Lok Shasan Andolan, B.G. Kolse Patil, said this on 25 July during a press conference at the I.M.A. Hall here. He said that alleging falsely of raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ during a Popular Front rally, on 15 July, Tauseef has been sent to jail. He said his arrest was murder of democracy. The forensic test report has proved his innocence. He demanded the immediate release of Muhammad Tauseef. He reminded that Bihar government has been established on secular pedestal, therefore, “our team appeals to CM Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad Yadav for his immediate release”.

Muhammad Tauseef was arrested on 15 July on the charge of raising ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogan during a rally of Popular Front. The rally was organised in support of the Islamic scholar Dr. Zakir Naik and AIMIM chief, Asaduddin Owaisi. Tauseef has since been sent to Bever jail. A Popular Front team is already in the city for arranging for his defence. Kolse Patil was on a visit to Patna to oversee Tauseef’s defence. He said that it has now been proved that the anti-minority forces have wrongly implicated Muhammad Tauseef over the ‘Pakistan Zindabad’. It is a ploy of RSS and other communal forces who want to weaken the secular and democratic system of the country.

Patil said that being a legal person, he knows the tactics of the fascist and pro-RSS forces who want to spoil the peaceful atmosphere of the country. He said that there is no law which can detain a citizen of the country simply for chanting the slogan of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ even if it is proved.  This cannot be construed to be treason against the country. He reminded that in the UK and USA their citizens protest waving the flags of other countries, but they are not arrested. He termed the arrest of Muhammad Tauseef as anti-minority and an anti-Muslim act and appealed to the government to release him. He accused that hundreds of Dalits, Muslims and Christians are confined in various jails of the country, on fictitious charges, while pro-RSS forces engage in their anti-minorities activities fearlessly. In order to counter their activities and liberate the country from their clutches, the minorities should work unitedly with the Dalits. Our organisation is working to attain this aim.

A member of the Front, EM Abdur-Rahman, demanded the government that the person and the channel which published the false news about ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogan, should be forced to face strict legal action, so that others could learn a lesson. Advocate of the Allahabad High Court, Sharfuddin Ahmad, suggested that the Bihar government should withdraw the case against Muhammad Tauseef and order the termination of police investigation.
