Peace is need of the hour

We strongly condemn the brutal killing of Rev. Jacques Hamel, an old priest, in France on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. It is contrary to Islamic teachings and great harm to humanity. The Almighty Creator of the universe loves His creation. Says the Holy Qur’an “If any one slew a person - unless it is to be for murder or spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people; and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of a whole people…” (5:32). We also condemn the statement of US republican Presidential nominee, Donald Trump, “Islam hates us” (Feb.-March 2016). Does this sort of utterance suit a presidential candidate of the only superpower? Again I quote from the holy Book “To those who believe in Allah and His messengers and make no distinction between any of the messengers We shall soon give their (due) rewards: for Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful” (4: 152). Can any one criticise and condemn the whole community or religion for the violence perpetrated by certain misguided and fanatic groups, bearing Muslim names, dressed in kurta pajama and being non-vegetarian? Please do not create chaos and confusion. Preserve the dignity of mankind.

Prof. Shaista Bano, Aligarh
