Prof. SHAHID ASHRAF, Registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia University has been appointed this University’s Pro Vice Chancellor by the VC Prof. Talat Ahmad. It may be stated that the post of Pro VC was lying vacant for the past about one year. Prof. Shahid Ashraf, in addition to being JMI’s Registrar was also its Finance Officer previously. He is also an economist and author of many books.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Dr. SALEHA RASHID, head of Allahabad University’s Department of Arabic and Persian, has been appointed by University’s Vice Chancellor Prof. Ratan Lal Honglo as head of Minorities Training Centre which was set up in 1984 under Prime Minister’s 15-point Minorities Welfare Scheme for educating and preparing students belonging to minority communities for all India competitive examinations and administrative services which is funded by UGC. In addition to training and preparing all minority students for competitive and IAS exams they will also be trained for provincial level competitive exams for judicial, railway, bank, net etc services.
 
 
 
 
 
MAULANA BADRUDDIN AJMAL QASMI, President of All India United Democratic Front (Assam) and MP who has been running and managing a network of schools, colleges, IITs etc all over the country for educational empowerment particularly of Muslims has been elected a member of AMU Court, highest governing body of the University. In addition to him (Maulana Ajmal) about 40 other prominent personalities and intellectuals were also selected members of the AMU Court some of whom are: ABHIJEET MUKHERJEE (son of President Pranab Mukherjee) (from learned professions, industry category), ASHOK SETH, noted cardiologist and an alumnus of AMU, AP PATHAN (former VC of Central University of Karnatak),S. SAEEDA AYYADAIN HAMEED, SHAHID JAMEEL (scientist), MAULANA RABEY HASANI NADVI, MAULANA KALBE SADIQ, SHAMSUR RAHMAN FAROOQI and GOPI CHAND NARANG (Urdu language & literature category) etc.
Dr. IFTEKHAR AHMAD, Director of AJK Masscom Research Centre has been appointed Media Coordinator of Jamia Millia Islamia University in place of Prof Mukesh Ranjan and Dr. (Ms) SA’EMA SYEED has been appointed Deputy Media Coordinator and spokesperson of JMI University.
FAROOQ KHAN, retired IPS officer has been appointed by central government as the new Administrator of Lakshdweep which is a central government-administered territory. Earlier, he was Director General of Police in J&K. He is also the incharge of BJP’s minorities front of Nagaland.
