NCPUL’s failing mission

Patna: A member of All India Congress Committee, Bari Azmi said here that National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language, instead of being an institution for promotion of Urdu language and literature, is becoming a centre for highlighting sensitive problems and issues of Muslims at the behest of RSS. He said that the manner in which education is being saffronised in this Council, the day is not far when, instead of promoting Urdu, Persian etc it will become an anti-Muslim Council. Expressing his anger at the growing influence of RSS and its outfits in NCPUL, he wrote a letter to President of India in which he described how instead of the steps taken and being taken for the promotion of Urdu and other aspects relating to Urdu and its problems, unrelated and irrelevant problems like controversial problems of Muslms are being discussed here. Giving an example he said that in a meeting and discussion held in NCPUL, discussions were taking place on how many times divorce or talaq should be pronounced and for what reasons, whether Muslims should keep four wives or not, how to create and promote a sense of patriotism among Muslims etc. He said that among those taking part in this discussion and meeting was one of RSS’s active and top leaders Indresh Kumar who has been accused of his involvement in many communal riots and bomb blasts (without being tried in any of these cases) and who, not to talk of being an expert in Urdu or Persian, does not even know Urdu, leave aside Persian. Raising such irrelevant problems instead of literary topics in NCPUL meeting is like making fun of and degrading this institution, he said
