Lecture on "From Darkness to Light"

Aligarh: Islamic scholar and retired brigadier Dr. Mukhtar Alam on 17 September  delivered a lecture on "From Darkness to Light" at the K. A. Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University. In his lecture, Brig. Alam stressed the need for attaining knowledge to get rid of the darkness of ignorance. He said that knowledge, which comes as a net result of educational pursuits, is the only remedy to bail out the society from the quagmire of ignorance and idiocy. He said only "truthfulness, determination, commitment and hard labour could take one towards light from the darkness".

Referring to the Quranic messages, Brig. Alam said that Islam aims at eliminating the darkness of ignorance from the human world and it would never sanction "hate, anger and savagery". He said Islam is a religion of peace and for a true follower of this religion, love and compassion for all is the only way of life.

In his presidential address, Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah, Vice Chancellor of AMU, urged the Islamic scholars to highlight the correct meaning of Jehad in Islam so that misconceptions could be taken care of. He said that coming of Shia and Sunni Muslims together for Eid-ul-Adha prayers at Lucknow was a welcome move and efforts should be made to bring different communities together. Brig. Alam’s Hindi book, "From Darkness to Light" was released on this occasion.
