HC orders compensations to Hashimpura massacre families

New Delhi: Delhi High Court’s constitution bench of Justice Gita Mittal and Justice P. S. Teji, while expressing concern over non-payment of compensations so far to the families of those killed in Hashimpurah massacre, directed the UP governemnt to pay the compensations to them at the earliest. The judges of the bench said in their order on 6 October that this matter is about 30 years old i.e. of 1987 but under the compensation scheme of State Legal Service Authority the victims have not so far got compensations. The bench further said that there is no denying the fact that payment of compensation needs to be made at the earliest. Hence UP government is directed to submit complete details of victims, their families to whom compensaitons have not been paid. The bench said that it will be the responsibility of the secretary of Meerut Legal Service Authority to ensure the identification of deserving family members for payment of assistane amounts under the Compensation Scheme. During the hearing of this case the court (Bench) asked UP government to also submit to it the CBCID’s report of 22 June 1989 about the 1987 incident.
